I was recently told about an organization who valued innovation so much they held an annual “competition” for all employees/departments to submit completed proposals for ways to enhance productivity, expansion, and/or company profit. The winner of the contest received $1,000. However, the BIG WINNER was the company because they received impressive, well-thought-out ideas for potential organizational enhancement and forward movement.
We are moving into what has been called the “Age of Disruption”. AI advancements are already infiltrating our daily lives and AI is increasingly impacting how many employees accomplish tasks. With all this potential change, how are you positioning yourself to be ready for the upcoming “disruptions”?
As a Self-Aware Leader, notice how you are you embracing or “bracing for” the upcoming revolutions.
1) Are you stuck in a fear mindset?
2) Are you cautiously optimistic and somewhat open to possibilities?
3) Have you embraced or mastered the innovations that have presented themselves to you?
Honestly and personally, I do have some reservations about what may be coming. I also realize that, on a daily basis, things are shifting dramatically. For me, it’s time to embrace possibility. I’m choosing to be open-minded, accepting recommendations for enhancements, and am open to learning and change.
In the past we have experienced disruptions: the Industrial Revolution of 1760-1840, the Technology Revolution of 1860-1920, the Digital Revolution of 1950 to current, and the Imagination Revolution of 2010 to current. While these revolutions have provided overwhelming progress, they have also displaced many workers.
While being open to how the abundance of technology advancements can and will improve your current tasks, my hope is that we can be open to how these changes will further enhance what your people do as well. How can we exponentially propel ourselves forward for the good of our staff and our bottom line? We can use this “Age of Disruption” to simplify and advance systems and productivity. By embracing the assistance of these new technologies, we can also create intentional opportunities for our employees to identify what more is possible to achieve. For example, if AI can do this task for you now, what other innovations become a possibility?
As a Self-Aware Leader, my hope is that we are equally committed to our profits AND our people. Both are possible and are important. Let’s continue to find ways to embrace new ideas while keeping our employees’ brains calm and creative to continuously innovate beyond what we currently see as possible.
YOU MATTER!
